Hello my name is Alison and I’ve been working in the healthcare industry for over 20 years, firstly as a nurse and then for the last 13 years as a care home manager. I have seen first hand the impact of ear wax build up on the residents that I cared for and how isolating this can become if not dealt with promptly. Unfortunately many GP services are not offering the service of ear wax removal and people are needing to turn to the private sector for support.
I provide a friendly, professional mobile healthcare service for ear wax removal using either microsuction or water irrigation techniques for stubborn ear wax in the comfort of your own home, care homes or pop up clinics.
Ear wax, also known by the medical term cerumen, is a brown, orange, red, yellowish or grey waxy substance secreted in the ear canal. It protects the skin of the human ear canal, assists in cleaning and lubrication, and provides protection against bacteria, fungi and water. The ear canal is lined with hair follicles and glands that produce the cerumen. Sometimes the glands produce more wax than can be easily excreted out the ear. This extra wax may harden within the ear canal and block the ear.
This can often be triggered by a new stimulus such as earplugs, hearing aids, earphones, headsets or other protective equipment because they are inserted or cover the ear for long periods of time.
It could also simply be because we are all different, and some people produce more wax than others, so are prone to excess build-up.
Other people may be at risk of build-up because they have naturally hard, dry ear wax or narrow canals.
The build-up of ear wax can affect all age groups. It can leave you with pain, discomfort, a feeling of fullness in the ear canal, balance issues, whistling or a buzzing sound and even hearing loss.
